The dirty and disgusting truth about USCF politics

This is how chess politicians play chess

Some of you may misconstrue this as an attack. However, I think it is time to bring up some facts. Lies and deceits must be stopped for the sake of the USCF!

As I repeatedly mentioned before, I have no interest to be involved in chess politics. Unfortunately, something incredible happened in the last election that forced me to try to save the USCF.

During the last election, Mr. Sam Sloan, a person who spent time in jail, a person who have no respect for the laws, got elected to the USCF Executive Board. How? Here are just three of the many reasons:

1. He LIED about his past to the USCF members. He misled the USCF members by stating that he was never convicted for any crime. He lied before, during and after the election about this and many other very important issues.

2. There is a feud between various chess political groups dating back to many decades. One of the groups is currently in power. The opposing group decided to get even by campaigning and supporting Mr. Sloan to destroy the other side. They succeeded.

3. The current voting system does not give the USCF members too much information by any candidate and there is no way to dispute the lies. Therefore, even if someone wanted to point out the lies and deceits by a candidate, they cannot effectively do it in a large scale. Most USCF members do not know what kind of a monster this person is.

This kind of dirty and destructive chess politics have been going on for a long time. It is not going to change by itself. The level of hatred and animosity is way too much. That is why I decided to do something to fix it. I know people from all political parties and some truly have the best interest of the USCF at heart. Unfortunately, not all of them do.

My goal is to reach out and unite all sides for the common good of our sport. But it is not easy. As I just mentioned, Mr. Sloan is one of those individuals who does not play by the rules. He is also someone with no morals or integrity. He will lie and distort the facts for his own benefits and he does this day after day. His supporters will do the same.

No one in their right mind and no one who has the best interest of chess and the USCF would ever endorse or protect an individual like this. This is a man who proudly bragged on his website about countless sexual relationships with young people and he even had their pictures on his website. And his supporters defend this. Need I say more?

That is why I refused to do business with any individual or any company that support the unethical and illegal conducts of Mr. Sloan. They do not deserve my support and I am sending them a strong message. If they want my support then they need to learn to stop destroying the USCF.

The latest disgusting and illegal deed from Mr. Sloan is he released confidential USCF information to the public as well as releasing confidential personnel information to attack his opponents. Not only that, he even falsified information about other candidates to discredit them. As I stated earlier, Mr. Sloan has no respect for the laws. He has no respect for anyone.

What are the options?

If various people sue Mr. Sloan, they will get no where. He has no money so what do you win? Nothing and you have to pay big bucks to take legal actions.

If various people sue the USCF for allowing and providing Mr. Sloan a forum to lie and deceive USCF members then people say that you do not care about this federation.

If various people do nothing then they will continue to lie and deceive USCF members.

The only solution is by showing people like Mr. Sloan the permanent door in the next election and all elections to come. People like Mr. Sloan do not belong on any Executive Board. People like Mr. Sloan have no comprehension of honesty, integrity or strong morals. People like Mr. Sloan have no business representing the USCF, an organization with more than 40,000 young people.

If elected, my team and I will do our best to end the destructive chess politics and concentrate on making improvement in many critical areas. We have to fight hard to take back our federation. This federation can no longer endure and tolerate people like Mr. Sloan.

Thank you for your support!

With all due respect, there should be a point 4 to your list. Some people voted for SS because they are concerned that there's important dirt that the Board Members have been covering up and they need somebody to expose it so that it can get cleaned. They voted for SS more out of desperation rather than malice or ignorance.

BTW I believe that this is Hal Bogner's position.

That's why I think that we should give them a real alternative. We should offer them professional audits instead of public attacks.

Going forward the Board will be run more honestly and as a step to ensure public confidence in that, the Board will be more aggressive in its audit responsibilities.

If Hal is sincere in what he has said so far, then this alternative ought to command his support and the support of all the rest who feel as he does.

Jack, I understand. However, I know some of these people a lot longer than you do. Mr. Bogner approached BOTH Paul and I for various business proposals in the past 5 years.

I know Hal for more than 20 years and he helped me a few times when I was younger. However, both Paul and I turned down Mr. Bogner's offers to do business. I cannot speak for Paul but I did not believe that Mr. Bogner is professional or loyal enough to represent me in any capacity today.

From reading some of his latest postings, I have to say that I made a very good decision and I am a much better judge of charaters now than I was 25 years ago. I have nothing against Hal. I wish him the best with another new venture. However, I am not interested in doing any business with him or his company.

I am here to help change the USCF for the better. Some of these people want the status quo. They do not want changes because that means that they can no longer control the USCF and run it to the ground.

People I deal with have the highest level of honesty, integrity and professionalism.

    Best wishes,
    Susan Polgar

I am visiting the Sam Sloan´s Home Page (www.SamSloan.com) right now..., he must be YOUR Sam Sloan, because he speaks about chess, the USCF,etc.
I was surprised knowing he was in jail, but i am seeing a video where he tries to be governor with the Libertarian party...and i am less surprised now.
In my country,Spain, the libertarian(anarchist) do not use to respect the laws, frecuently their party fights against our police in the streets(they use to reape the property of the houses if nobody is living in them).Frecuently they go to jail.

What can i say?He is one of them.I cannot understand how he was elected.

Point four (or is it five) on the list of reasons that Sam Sloan got elected: Most USCF voting members have been so turned off by the bickering in chess politics that they don't even vote. Of course, this gives a determined minority more hope as long as their members mail in the ballots.

There is no way that Sam Sloan would have been elected if more than 10% of the electorate knew about his past and decided to do something about it.

I would be very angry if Mr. Bogner defends this criminal Sam Sloan. I hope it's not true. Things like this make me sick.

StrongKnight, I have removed your post attacking Mr. Hal Bogner. I can't tell you that you should do business with Mr. Bogner or ChessMagnetSchool.com. That is your choice. However, I ask that you don't publicly ask for USCF members to boycott Mr. Bogner's business. Thank you for your understanding.

    Best wishes,

A couple thoughts... As you have endorsed Paul Truong and have a very close business relationship with him, it would behoove you to ask Paul to do several things (not necessarily on the forum, but somewhere accessible to members ):

    1) Clarify the resume issue that has been circulated on the USCF Issues Forum,
    2) Clarify exactly which position he held for the short period after Frank Nero left.

Also, you (GM Polgar) made a pledge of a positive campaign. The last week or so has seen you make remarks that are heading into the negative. I believe that in this election negativity for your campaign would be counter productive.

I've been meaning to ask you something, but please don't take it as an attack on you. I just think it needs to be clarified.

On a couple occasions I have read posts by you that seem to put Howard Stern in a favorable light. Now, I am not here to say anything bad about Howard Stern either.

I know he has the potential to help the popularity of chess. However is it not true that some of his morals go against your own? Does his lifestyle and views put him in the same moral grouping as Sam Sloan?

So my question is would you be willing to forego your moral stance in exchange for the opportunity to promote chess even though it might go against the very thing that will get you elected?

In otherwords, if Howard Starn approached you to be on his show to promote chess, would you do such a thing?

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Let’s look at the whole SS thing from his point of view for just a minute. Susan always teaches that chess players should assume the opponent will make his best moves. We should never draw up plans that depend upon the opponent blundering. This is good advise for chess politics, too.

What strikes me when I try to look at things from Sam Sloan’s perspective is just how badly he has conducted his affairs.

Right out of the box I note how he arranges his pride-and-joy piece of his forces: his website. SS has always bragged on “how big he was on the internet.” Yet, this is an extremely ineffective site. As a tool to increase his vote totals, it may do more harm than good.

The same is true for his posting campaign on the USCF Forums and the newsgroups. His attacks could have positioned him for “the anybody but Susan” crowd but they’ve been so irresponsible, that they’ve probably impacted with a lot less on VOTING than they otherwise could.

Another political observer could disagree with that judgement. SS is clearly relying on the technique of the BIG LIE. This technique has certainly proven all too effective in political campaigns for all kinds of governments and private organizations. In an organization like the USCF, with most of the members ignorant and apathetic, the BIG LIE, repeated relentlessly and loudly could be effective.

The trouble still is that it has to rest upon a central theme. The SS campaign, to run this kind of campaign, has to put that theme out early. One possible theme that such a campaign might use is “Susan Polgar wants to make herself the dictator of US Chess and only Sam Sloan can stop her.” Without a theme like that to build upon, the lies just end nowhere.

Still, the campaign of lies will probably depress the Polgar vote. But will those voters who vote against Polgar vote for SS instead?

Summary: SS has not run an effective campaign so far from his standpoint. If I was Sam Sloan’s campaign manager and I was dishonest enough and ruthless enough to run an anto-Polgar Big Lie campaign, I would adopt massive changes in how my candidate is managing his affairs. Even on the level of simple hardball politics, I’m afraid that SS is just not very smart.

Jack misses the point entirely. SS lives on notoriety. He does not care about what he says or does as long as attention is focused on him. To SS, any press is good press and he will, and does often, create it if necessary by any means.

Here is the point Jack misses: It does no good for Susan to counter SS point by point. It does no good for Jack to counter SS point by point for Susan. There is no defense against the lies and half truths told by SS and repeated by the unwitting in most cases save for re-stating one's case for change.

In summary, if GM Polgar wishes to counter SS she will descend into the negative campaign that she formally eschewed, and she nows stands on the slippery slop of doing just that. SS dwells in the muck and is at home there. GM Polgar's field of battle should be the high ground. Attack the issues and form a standard that the other candidates will have to follow if they are to be relevant.

Those who wish to dwell in the muck will vote for the person who is at home in the muck, regardless of what the other candidates try to do. Go after the great mass that wishes to play chess and belong to a decent organization. Those voters are open to honest candidates.

SS should not be the focus of GM Polgar's forum. However, GM Polgar has begun the descent into retaliatory posts and some of her supporters have gone farther (hence the golden silence remark). GM Polgar should answer the relevant questions that honest voters have and leave the muckraking to the candidate that lives there. No further attention need be given to him.

    Susaan,

My thoughts and prayers are with you, as you recover from your trip to the hospital.

I agree with everything you say regarding the changes needed.

Naysayers are always a formidable challenge.

Just be careful not to play into their hands and go to their level.

Please take care of your self.

Remember, not to get too agrivated and watch the blood pressure.

    G-d Speed in your recovery...

    Best Wishes,
