ED Contract Update

In a message dated 10/16/2008 7:15:26 P.M. Central Daylight Time, Chessoffice writes:

"I sent a proposed contract to Randy Bauer two weeks ago, but have learned that he has been out of the country and will return tomorrow. Hopefully Randy, Bill Hall and I will reach agreement then so we can have a board vote."

Bill Goichberg

This was my response to Bill Goichberg's latest email after I have brought up this issue a number of times. Each time, I was told that it will be done soon while it should have been done in August 2008.

"Why on earth would you reach an agreement before the full board can vote to renew or terminate the contract of the ED unless you have reached that agreement privately without the full board’s vote? This is already after the board majority purposely delayed this process for more than two months. This should have been done in August in Dallas as we discussed with Joel Channing in August 2007. This is precisely why we had the contract run until around November of this year.

There will be four new board members in the next term. I think it would be very unfair for the new board to be stuck with an ED or a contract which they may or may not want to have.

Therefore, I do not think that even if you already secretly agreed to renew the ED's contract, it should not be for more than one year. It would be irresponsible to do otherwise, especially given the current financial state of the USCF."
